Lifenotes #50: January 2025
Winter crafting and films
✨ Highlights
- Started the year with my family in Devon 💛
- Found a new daycare for Juno 🐾
- Got a new film camera 📸
🎮 Played/Read/Watched
- Duel: watched this with my family, it’s a long time favourite, and still a gripping watch.
- We Live in Time: it was nice, but not remarkable.
- A Fish Called Wanda: one of my favourite ever films! So funny.
- The Proposal: a classic rom com I had never seen!
- Wordplay: I love the NYT crosswords, so this level of nerdery is right up my street 🤓
- The Amityville Horror: I read this book as a kid and it really scared me, this film is extremely trashy though, in the best way.
- Wicked: really boring 🫣
- The Other Two: a really fun comedy. Gotta love Molly Shannon.
- Hit Man: this was a good watch, Glen Powell is really charming.
- Nosferatu: I saw this at the cinema, and my two favourite things about it were the photography, which was stunning in parts, and the woman sat next to me that seemed to levitate off her seat with each jump scare 😂
- The Big Sick: this was a sweet rom com, good cozy winter watching.
- Petite Maman: a short and sweet film, I enjoyed this quite a bit.
- Arcane: my friend Vlad recommended this and it’s really good! The story is great and the way the use the animation to punctuate it is excellent.
- A Real Pain: Kieran Culkin was really good in this.
- The Recipe with Kenji and Deb
- Molli and Max in the Future: watched this while doing some crafting, it was different and fun, but not massively up my street.
- The Firemen’s Ball: I loved the absurd comedy in this.
- Severance season 2: after waiting 84 years for this to come out, it really was worth the wait! But now I have to wait another 84 years for season 3 😭
- Why Is CSS So Weird? by Miriam Suzanne
- Belle Époque: a Spanish classic I’d never seen, it was a good watch.
- Titane: I saw this at the Prince Charles and it was so good! Weird and different, my favourite kind of film ✨
